June 11th 2011 – Plein Air Paint Out Workshop

FREE and open to the public

Plans are coming together for the Saturday, June 11th Free Plein Air Paint Out. What is a “Plein Air Paint Out” you ask? Great question.

Plein Air is a French expression which means “in the open air”, and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors. Artists have long painted outdoors, but in the mid-19th century working in natural light became particularly important to the Barbizon school and Impressionism. The popularity of painting en plein air increased in the 1870s with the introduction of paints in tubes (resembling modern toothpaste tubes) From Wikipedia

The charming grounds of Old Austerlitz will be open to artists who wish to paint in a group. The fun will start at 9:30 with coffee and breakfast treats. Plan to bring, your easel, brushes, paints, a sketch book, a camera, bug spray and sun hat. Registration and distribution of supplies to those who need them will follow. Barbara Willner and Fran Heaney will be available with suggestions about where to paint on the property and general ideas. It should be an enjoyable experience.

Paintings and drawings done that day will be on exhibit in the Harvey House later in the summer.

Lunch and drinks will be available for a modest price supplied by the Austerlitz Historical Society
